Agreement and eligibility
By accessing fish-identifier.org, uploading a photo, creating an account, or purchasing a plan, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
You must be legally able to enter this agreement and follow the laws and organizational policies that apply to you. If you use Fish Identifier for an organization, you represent that you have authority to accept these Terms on its behalf.
Operator and contact details
Fish Identifier is operated through fish-identifier.org. Product, account, billing, privacy, and legal inquiries can be sent to the support team at support@fish-identifier.org.
The Fish Identifier service
Fish Identifier helps users submit a single JPG, PNG, or WEBP photo and receive an AI-assisted visual starting point. Depending on the image, the result may include a likely species, fish type, visible clues, possible lookalikes, and a suggested next step.
The service is a visual exploration utility. It is not an automatic species survey, laboratory analysis, professional identification, food-safety assessment, toxicity certification, valuation service, legal-status check, or certified records system. Features, limits, supported browsers, and third-party model availability may change.
License and ownership
Subject to these Terms and the applicable plan, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the released website for personal or internal business purposes. Fish Identifier and its software, design, branding, documentation, and other service materials remain owned by us or our licensors.
Except where applicable law expressly permits it, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse engineer, bypass licensing or usage controls, or create a competing service from protected parts of Fish Identifier.
Your photos and responsibilities
You retain any rights you have in photos you submit. You are responsible for having permission to upload, process, retain, and share the images and information you provide. Do not upload images that contain private information, another person's likeness, confidential material, or content you are not authorized to process.
You are responsible for reviewing important results. Lighting, blur, distance, mixed subjects, background objects, similar species, model limitations, or missing physical tests can affect an identification. Keep your original notes and seek qualified help when accuracy, evidence, safety, or legal status matters.
Accounts and security
You are responsible for keeping your account, browser profile, device, and session secure. Provide accurate account and billing information, do not share paid access outside permitted use, and notify support@fish-identifier.org if you suspect unauthorized account or payment activity.
Free access, paid plans, and billing
The Pricing page describes current monthly subscriptions and one-time credit packs, including the credits and usage access associated with each plan. Prices are shown in USD before applicable taxes unless checkout says otherwise. Paid access begins after payment confirmation.
Monthly subscriptions renew automatically every 30 days at the interval and price disclosed at checkout until canceled. Credit packs are one-time purchases and do not renew automatically. Canceling a subscription stops future renewal and normally leaves access active through the paid period. Refund requests are governed by our Refund Policy and non-waivable consumer law.
Acceptable use
- Do not upload, process, retain, or share photos or information without authorization.
- Do not use Fish Identifier to violate privacy, confidentiality, intellectual-property, employment, records, sanctions, or other laws.
- Do not introduce malware, evade security controls, impersonate another person, abuse authentication, or interfere with the service.
- Do not use automated activity to overload fish-identifier.org, api.fish-identifier.org, our payment or licensing systems, the image-analysis provider, or third-party services.
- Do not resell access, share a license improperly, bypass plan limits, or misrepresent Fish Identifier as a laboratory, species authority, safety service, or regulatory authority.
Third-party services
Fish Identifier relies on third-party products such as hosting, authentication, payment, analytics, and image-analysis services. Their services are governed by their own terms and can change, restrict, suspend, or discontinue functionality without our control. Fish Identifier is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google, Apple, OpenAI, or any fisheries, aquarium, or scientific institution.
Availability and changes
We may add, change, limit, suspend, or discontinue features, plans, integrations, or access when reasonably necessary for product development, security, legal compliance, third-party changes, or business operations. We aim to provide reasonable notice of material changes affecting an active paid plan when practical, but uninterrupted availability is not guaranteed.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using the service at any time. We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access for nonpayment, fraud, abuse, security risk, legal necessity, or material violation of these Terms. Provisions that should reasonably survive termination, including ownership, payment obligations, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute-related terms, continue to apply.
Disclaimers
To the extent permitted by law, Fish Identifier is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. We do not warrant uninterrupted operation, compatibility with every browser or device, perfect reproduction of every visual feature, a correct result for every fish, or suitability for a particular scientific, legal, regulatory, tax, safety, or valuation requirement. These disclaimers do not exclude warranties or rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Fish Identifier and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of content, records, revenue, profits, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from use of the service. To the extent permitted by law, aggregate liability relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid to Fish Identifier during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Changes, questions, and disputes
We may update these Terms by posting a revised version and date on fish-identifier.org. Continued use after the effective date means acceptance where permitted by law. Before starting a formal dispute, please contact support@fish-identifier.org and provide enough information for us to try to resolve the issue. Nothing in these Terms limits rights or remedies that cannot be waived under applicable law.
